Buyer Policy

MAVENFAIR BUYER POLICY

Welcome to MavenFair, an online marketplace where you can purchase unique Canadian handmade goods or craft supplies. We encourage you to read on to find out more about your rights, as well as what is expected of you, as a buyer.

This policy is a part of our Terms of Use. By accessing, browsing or using the MavenFair.ca website and all sub-domains, which are a service of MavenFair™ Artisans & Crafters Market Incorporated (“MavenFair”), you are agreeing to be bound by the following terms and conditions set out in our Terms of Use Agreement and the Privacy Policy, whether you are a registered member of MavenFair or a non-registered guest.

UNDERSTANDING THE LIMITATIONS AS A MARKETPLACE

The services and network of MavenFair are operated by MavenFair™ Artisans & Crafters Market Incorporated (MavenFair) and its corporate affiliates (collectively, “us”, “we” or “the Company”). MavenFair provides a venue for buyers to find, learn about, and enter into transactions with Canadian sellers. It is important to note that MavenFair is not a part of that transaction. By shopping on MavenFair, you understand that:

  • You are not buying directly from MavenFair, but from one of the many talented Canadian MavenFair Makers (sellers);
  • MavenFair does not pre-screen sellers and therefore does not guarantee or endorse any items sold on MavenFair, or any content posted by sellers (such as photographs or language used in listings or shop policies);
  • Each seller on MavenFair accepts PayPal as the payment method;
  • Each seller on MavenFair has their own processing times, shipping methods and shop policies; and
  • MavenFair makes every effort to ensure sellers are living and creating their handmade products in Canada and encourage buyers and members to report violations to MavenFair at enforcement@nullmavenfair.ca .

PURCHASING AN ITEM ON MAVENFAIR

When you buy from a shop on MavenFair, you are supporting an independent business. Each shop has its own unique listings, processing times and policies. By making a purchase from a Canadian seller on MavenFair, you agree that you have:

  • Read the item description and shop policies before making a purchase;
  • Provided accurate shipping information to the seller; and
  • Submitted the appropriate payment for item(s) purchased.

RATING YOUR EXPERIENCE

FEEDBACK

MavenFair encourages buyers to share your experience. Your feedback is a great way to:

  • help good sellers build a strong reputation;
  • learn about a seller’s product; and
  • assist other buyers by warning about a poor experience.

By leaving feedback along with a one to five star rating, you acknowledge that your review and profile information will be publicly displayed on the seller’s listing and review pages.

Feedback may NOT:

  • Contain private information;
  • Contain obscene, racist or harassing language or imagery;
  • Violate our Anti-Discrimination Policy;
  • Contain advertising or spam;
  • Be about things outside the seller’s control, such as a shipping carrier, MavenFair, or a third party; or
  • Undermine the integrity of the feedback/rating system.

SHILL MARKETING

Shill marketing is not allowed on MavenFair. Shill marketing is the fraudulent inflation of a shop’s reputation by the use of an alternate account and is used to make a seller look more desirable by increasing the shop’s number of sales and overall ratings score. Shill marketing violates our core value of transparency and is considered to be a deceptive business practice by the Canadian Code of Advertising Standards. Feedback and ratings must reflect the honest, unbiased opinions, findings, beliefs or experience of the buyer.

EXTORTION

Extortion is not allowed on MavenFair. Any attempt to manipulate feedback reviews through threats, intimidation or bribery is considered extortion and is strictly prohibited on MavenFair. Examples of extortion include the following:

  • A buyer leaves a negative review in an attempt to force the seller into providing additional items that were not agreed upon in the original transaction.
  • A buyer leaves a negative review in an attempt to force the seller into providing a refund when a refund is not warranted.

Feedback is a way for MavenFair buyers to share their experiences with the community. Any attempt to use feedback, ratings or feedback responses to force a user to do something they aren’t obligated to do is considered a misuse of the feedback system and is strictly prohibited. If you think you have experienced extortion, please contact us immediately at enforcement@nullmavenfair.ca .

RESOLVING PURCHASE DISPUTES

MavenFair is not directly involved in a transaction between a buyer and a seller; however, in the unlikely event that a dispute arises between a buyer and seller they are unable to reach an amicable resolution, MavenFair is here to assist you. MavenFair can only assist you if the dispute involves the non-delivery of an item or if the item you received is not what was described in the seller’s listing. Please contact us at resolutions@nullmavenfair.ca to start the resolution process.

There are certain dispute situations that MavenFair considers  non-qualifying purchases and we will not be able to assist you in reach a resolution.

REQUESTING A CANCELLATION

Only sellers can cancel transactions. Buyers may request that a seller cancel an order. Please note that all cancellations must comply with our Anti-Discrimination Policy and with any cancellation policy that individual sellers may have outlined in their Shop Policies.

RETURNING AN ITEM

MavenFair sellers determine their own return policies, which are required to be outlined in their Shop Policies. Sellers are not required to accept returns so be aware that some sellers may not accept returns.
